DEM Party member: It is a problem for Parliament to go on holiday in this process

ISTANBUL - Pointing to the developments regarding the solution of the Kurdish issue, DEM Party Istanbul Provincial Co-Chair Arife Çınar stated that an “extraordinary process” is taking place and stressed: “Even the Parliament going on holiday is a problematic situation.”

The meetings organised by the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK), Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) in order to convey to the society the process shaping the new era with Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’ continue.

Evaluating the meetings organised in the form of public meetings, gatherings and family visits all over Turkey and Kurdistan and the process, DEM Party Istanbul Provincial Co-chair Arife Çınar reminded that the state has not yet taken any concrete steps regarding the process.

Referring to the proposal for the establishment of a commission in the Parliament, Arife Çınar said, "If this problem has not been put on the table and discussed in Turkey, even the Parliament going on holiday is a problematic situation. We see this as an extraordinary process.”

Stressing that not just Kurds, also Alevis, women, and many other social groups also have problems Arife Çınar said: “If there is an idea for the democratisation of Turkey and constitutional amendments are to be made in this direction, the formation of a commission that will include all segments of society will yield better results. If the peace process is to be implemented, concrete steps must be taken. Unless concrete steps are taken, the society becomes anxious about the process."

'OUR WORK WILL CONTINUE'

Stating that the party is working intensively on the process, "A peace commission has been formed and continues its work, despite its shortcomings. This commission includes intellectuals and representatives of different associations. They organise various meetings on the process,“ she said and pointed that their meetings cover all segments in society.

“We will have meetings with different peoples and in this context we will have a meeting with Circassians on the 24th. Especially in the associations and belief institutions we visit, we talk about the need for women to take part in the administration. We talk about a democratic society. We will continue to carry this responsibility through Istanbul and continue our similar activities."

'EVERYONE HAS A RESPONSIBILITY FOR PEACE'

Stating that Turkey, Kurds and peoples need peace, Arife Çınar said that they received positive messages from the society. Arife Çınar added: "If there have been economic problems in Turkey for 52 years and the spiral of violence has spread to the society, this is linked to the war. In the meetings and gatherings, we have seen that there is a serious distance against the policies of the state both through war policies and through the monist mind. We have a great responsibility. The field of democratic politics has a great responsibility. We should do whatever we can to socialise peace with different social segments. It is the society itself that will create change."
