Deportation order for Zahir, who faces risk of execution

NEWS CENTER – A deportation order has been upheld against Hossein Salmanpour Zahir, who sought refuge in Turkey due to cases filed against him in Iran. The decision was approved by the Bursa Regional Administrative Court, raising concerns that he may face execution if returned to Iran.

Hossein Salmanpour Zahir had previously received prison sentences on charges such as “rebellion through membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran,” “propaganda against the regime,” and “espionage”. He was last held in Evin Prison and was released on temporary leave with bail.

After his release, he went Turkey in November 2019. His application for protection was accepted in July 2020.

While living in Yalova, he was later charged with “changing residence without permission.”

The Sixth Administrative Chamber of the Bursa Regional Administrative Court upheld the deportation decision issued by the lower court and also closed the path for appeal, preventing further legal challenge.

Zahir is currently being held in the Kocaeli Removal Centre and faces the risk of being deported to Iran at any moment.

Family members and human rights activists, speaking to Mezopotamya Agency, called for public support and solidarity to prevent his deportation, warning that he faces a serious risk of execution if returned.
