AMED - Drawing attention to the ongoing discussions on the Kurdish issue, "Time offers very favourable conditions for a Turkish-Kurdish alliance and a solution to the Kurdish issue," said academic-writer Mümtaz'er Türköne and stated that the CHP, as a party that has partnered with the DEM Party under the name of "Urban Consensus", cannot remain outside the process.

Evaluating the discussions on the Kurdish issue that started with the talks with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan to Mezopotamya Agency (MA), academic-writer Mumtaz'er Turkone said that these developments are not independent from the developments in Syria. Turkone, who made a connection between the discussions that started when MHP Chair Devlet Bahçeli shook hands with the deputies of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) on 1 October, stated that this step was “a need of the state” and said, "Devlet Bahçeli is a man with decency and vision. He saw the need of the state."

Drawing attention to the developments in Syria, Turkone said, "This is a puddle of water, a flood comes and covers the surrounding area. A road has to be opened from the other side so that the accumulated water caan be drained and evacuated. Devlet Bahçeli opened a breach in the most solid, seemingly impenetrabel part of that barrier to drain all water, and this is exactly how his exit should be described. Others could have opened small culverts, water could have flowed through them, but he completely drained the water. Thanks to him, Turkey is now experiencing a wave of sympathy and optimism towards the Kurds. The Kurds in particular are favouring Bahçeli because of his outburst, but for the Turkish side he has turned all those stereotypes upside down. He has opened a new small space."

Turkone stated that the appropriate and harmonious reactions to the developments came from İmralı and that positive reactions came from other fronts with the fluctuations initiated by İmralı. Stating that he has not seen any negative signs in the process, Turkone said, "It means that things are going well."

‘TIME IS VERY FAVOURABLE FOR A KURDISH-TURKISH ALLIANCE’

Referring to the dangers Abdullah Öcalan expressed in his message and the Kurdish-Turkish alliance, Turkone said, "In order to be involved in the developments in the region and to develop initiative in the developments in the region, this issue must be resolved quickly. What will prevent the developments in the region from getting out of control is the establisment of a Turkish-Kurdish alliance. The Northern Iraq, Kurdistan Regional Government side of this is OK. It seems that the problem has been solved there to a great extent. If the Jazeera-Rojava region is also solved, then there will be a view of Turkey that will be fully involved in the developments in the Middle East, controlling and developing initiatives. I think that a Turkish-Kurdish alliance offers very favourable conditions for the solution of the Kurdish issue."

Drawing attention to the behaviour of the AKP and the appointment of trustees, Turkone said that he did not take this situation seriously. Stating that the geo-strategic developments in the Middle East are important, "Those who govern the AKP, those who govern the country, those who think that they will not benefit from this process cannot ressit these geo-strategic developments, they will surrender. Because the development in the region is a very strong wave. Staying out of this will cause Turkey to lose a lot. It also loses a lot to those who try to prevent it. That's why I think that such trustee appointments are a tripping hazard due to power calculations and calculations based on political rivalry. But the conditions and the future of the region are very favourable for Turkey."

Turkone said that the positions of the MHP and the AKP are clear politically, adding that the AKP is wobbling a little bit, but the MHP is standing in its place like iron chickpeas, and stressed: "The answer to the question of who takes what kind of attitude in politics is only the CHP. The CHP has to approach this process positively, constructively and support it, otherwise it would deny its raison d'être. Among the political actors, it is not necessary to take the IYI Party and other small marginal parties very seriously when the MHP is standing in this regard; but the attitude of the CHP is very important. As a party that has made a compromise with the DEM Party under the name of ‘Urban Consensus’, the CHP cannot stay out of this process."
