Cancer Mustafa Karatepe releases after 30 years

ANKARA - Mustafa Karatepe, who is cancer, has been released from prison after 30 years.

Mustafa Karatepe, 70, with colon cancer was released from Ankara Sincan Type F Closed Prison after 30 years in prison. Karatepe was detained in İzmir on 14 January 1995 and he was sentenced to death by the State Security Court (DGM) on the charge of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state". Later Karatepe's sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. 
 
Karatepe was greeted in front of the prison by his relatives, executives and members of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM), the Association for Assistance of Prisoners' Families (TUAY-DER) and the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD).
