Refugee boat sank in Mugla: 14 dead 2025-10-24 13:35:38 MUGLA - While 2 people were rescued from the refugee boat sinking off the coast of Bodrum district of Mugla, 14 refugees lost their lives. The search for 2 refugees continues.  Upon the report that a person called for help in the rocky are in Ada Burnu, 3 Coast Guard boats and Special Diving Team (DEGAK) were distpached to the area. The teams rescued the refugee from Afghanistan.    The rescued refugee said that they set out to sea with a rubber boat and the boat took water and sank after about 10 minutes. Stating that there were 18 people on the boat, the refugee said that they swam for about 6 hours and reached the land.    As a result of the search and rescue operations launched in the region, another refugee who swam to Çelebi Island was found. While the bodies of 14 refugees were found, search and rescue operations are continuing to reach 2 refugees who are missing. In the region, 4 coast guard boats, 1 special diving team and 1 helicopter continue to work non-stop.   Mugla Governorate made a statement about the incident: "All our teams started to work in a coordinated manner from the moment the incident was reported. The rescued migrants are in good health and search activities are continuing to reach the missing people."
