What does Turkey want in Syria? 2025-09-08 09:29:03   NEWS CENTER - It has emerged that Turkey, which has been portrayed as the “intransigent party” in recent days and is seeking to intervene by threatening forces in North and East Syria, plans to deepen the civil war by pitting Druze factions against each other.    Following the “Call for Peace and Democratic Society,” the state and the government remain silent in response to the steps taken by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan regarding the process. The latest statement by Turkish Nationalist Movement Party (MHP Leader Devlet Bahçeli regarding North and East Syria, who shook hands with the deputies of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party in Parliament on October 1, 2024, taking the first step in the new process, raised questions. Following this statement, Bahçeli held a meeting with his political partner, AKP President Tayyip Erdoğan. After the meeting, eyes turned back to the Syrian arena.    BAHÇELİ'S THREATS   In his statement, Bahçeli argued that it was not yet clear whether PKK members were gradually joining the SDF/YPG and that the situation was ambiguous. Claiming that Abdullah Öcalan's call on February 27, 2025, is binding on all components of the organization, Bahçeli said, "The SDF/YPG is not exempt or an exception to this call. It will soon become clear whether the entire spectrum of the organization's derivatives will pass the test of loyalty and sincerity in the eyes of their leaders, or whether it will be determined by Zionist treachery or Imrali. The terrorist state of Israel continues to raise its hand regarding the division and fragmentation of Syria. It appears that the SDF/YPG is in Israel's orbit." Bahçeli also threatened that they would carry out military operations if the outcome was not as they expected.    FACTS ON THE GROUND   Although Bahçeli and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, in particular, threaten the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, saying that they want Syria's integrity and the end of the war, the reflections from the field show that this is not the case and that Turkey is fuelling the civil war.    TURKEY IS AN OBSTACLE TO A SOLUTION   Although the Turkish side calls for compliance with the agreement signed on 10 March between SDF General Commander Mazloum Abdî and Ahmet al-Shara, who was declared as the head of the interim administration, it prevents Shara from fulfilling the requirements of the agreement. In this context, while the meeting in Damascus did not yield any results, the meeting that Shara wanted to organise in Paris under the leadership of the US and France was first postponed and then it was stated that he would not participate.   DRUZE AND ALAWITES   The Shara administration, which is fighting with the Druze and the Alawites in the coastal cities by keeping these dilemmas alive in North and East Syria, is keeping the 14-year civil war alive. It is stated that this war is being continued with Turkey's quest to have a presence in the field, to grab a share of the cake that will emerge in the construction and to be included in the trade route that will pass through the south. The Druze, who resisted the Shara regime in Suwayda and other cities and demanded autonomy, were joined by the Alawites, who formed the Central West Syria Council and demanded autonomy.    MIT'S PLAN   In this context, it was reported that Turkey's National Intelligence Organisation (MIT), which wants to deepen the war, has put some plans into action. According to the information obtained from security sources; MIT has conveyed the following plan to Shara intelligence with the request to be leaked to the USA; The main purpose of the plan is to eliminate the Israeli plan by liquidating the Heres Wetenî forces established by the Druze in Suwayda.   The content of the plan is as follows;   "* To form a military force under the command of Silêman Abid al-Baqî and Leys al-Balûs, who previously acted against the Druze in Suwayda and who have close relations with the Shara administration, from the Druze of Jaremena, Sehnaya and Ashrafiyet Sehnaya.   * This military force will be called Patriotic Suwayda Forces.   * This force will present itself to the US as a Druze force, and the intervention of Heres Wetenî, which was established under the command of Şêx Hikmat al-Hijri, will be linked to the SDF and it will be explained that the forces of North East Syria want conflict and war.    * The salaries of the military force to be established will be paid by the Turkish Ministry of Defence.    * This force will work in Suwayda and will make its power effective in the city.   * The aim is for the Druze to fight each other    * The US will be informed that the members of this force are from Suwayda, were forcibly expelled from the city and now want to return for its defence.   * Through this force, Syrian intelligence will assert its power in the city. It will be requested that foreign powers do not take advantage of the internal conflict of the Druze.   * This force will first be provided with medium-sized weapons, and after entering the city, it will be provided with heavy weapons.   * In this way, Israel's support for Heres Wetenî will be destroyed."   MA / Erdoğan Altan
